I am now wondering what else is in the WIP bags. Yes there are 2. It is school holidays here in Qld at the moment; so that makes 2 full weeks of knitting; as D enjoys his days at church doing Kids Games 2010.

Miss WW. NO the Shawl is still to be blocked. It has made its way into my drawer as it is yet been needed. I am a scared chicken in the blocking stage. Matter of not knowing what I am to do or am doing. Scared that I am going to ruin the shawl.

Progressive Works - Project 1

I have so many projects on the needles at the moment; I thought I should start numbering them and working on them and also up loading them to Ravelry.

So that I can keep track of how I am doing and how much I am achieving on each project; I thought I would bring you along for the journey. Boring I know.

Colour: Gondwana. I may have to buy another skien as pattern is called for 300m of 100% worsted weight 10ply. My yarn is 312m of 8ply. So i will knit and see how length is.

You maybe asking yourself about the safety pins. Well they are my stitch markers. Yes I do have about 12 but needed 24 ( 8 x 3 colours) so hence my 'cheap' homemade stitch markers.

Like many states of Australia; Qld had a long weekend. This is our last one until Christmas. We have our Labour Day in May.

What did we do? Well do you really want to know? Of course you do? Well this is what we saw

We spent the weekend at the 2010 Wintersun Festival at Coolangatta, Qld.

These are just a few of the 300-400 Pre 1974 cars that we saw. And only a handful of the 100 photos I took. Don't ask me what type of cars they are; I just appreciate the paintwork. S reckons there is some type of theme on the colour works... Yes most of the cars were purple. Weellllllll !!!!!

Teapots; Coffee Pot; Nope I have a MUG

The other day I was reading away on Aussie Maria's Blog thinking how yummy her Pumpkin Date Cake looked. As you probably now have read, Maria decided to show off her Teapots. Well I had to have a giggle because 'Shock Horror' I don't own one.

Then through corresponding Emails we both discovered that I don't have a coffee pot; so Maria has asked we share either our Teapots, (nope can't do that); Coffee Pots, (sorry not that either); well how about your favourite cup or mug. (Yeap can surely do that!). Promise there will be no mug shots of the boys.

So here is my favourite coffee/milo mug at present. A Christmas present from ME to ME.

My family (S, D, Mikey & Taz) would like to let you know that this is so true.

Also Mikey is healing very well. Apparently the neighbours cat has come off 2nd best, with Mikey clawing him down the neck; shame he didn't get a major blood vessel

Was awoken late Tuesday night/Early hrs Wednesday morning by hissing, spitting and dog barking.

Walked into garage found 2 cats at it; 1 defending his territory; the other a cat in which if walks near, in front of or just 50 feet near Steve, it will somehow go missing. Mind you, we love cats; but not ferals.

This is the result; spent Thursday afternoon at vets with Mikey :( Even though we bathed his wounds in salt water; one of them became infected). Yes he developed a cat fight abscess. Walked in on Thursday after school to a cat with a very swollen head. Now this is poor Mikey, after the trip to vets. Just a warning I have never heard of Feline HIV; but Mikey is now in the process of being vaccinated against it. One day they may find a vaccination and cure for Human HIV.

The vision of Mikey drinking his water out of our bathroom basin. NO he will not drink out of anything else; except the bath tub when he was a kitten. Yes he tried to get into the shower last night with Damien, but once he splashed himself with a little water he quickly shot out once it hit his wounds.

I now have a very angry cat due to:-
a) Neighbours cat encroaching on his territory;
b) Silly dog not protecting him;
c) Horrible feeling of sickness; (we know what it is like when infections hit)
d) Trip to vets to be shaved; head squeezed; ears prodded; wounds swabbed; worm tablet given; two injections given.

We also have an upset Vet's assistant because Mikey scratched and bit her finger; but did he bite and let go; NOOOOO not my cat; he held on.... :D

Wondering whether to give neighbour the vet bill?

Well as you read from the last post, having no internet; (and no phone on Sunday & Monday) meant that knitting was done.

I was doing the charity curling for the Ravolympics; but due to my slackness in not uploading photos when finished, meant I didn't qualify for any medals. Not to worry, I enjoyed the Olympics and would like to visit Canada one day.

Here is my latest accomplishments;

Pattern: Dream in Color Designs 'Tulip' by Lindsay Perkins (Ravelry link)
Yarn: Shepherd Baby Yarn 4ply
Modifications: Pattern is written for 8ply Worsted Superwash Merino. I converted yarn and needle size, as I do. I actually keep to the pattern sizing, and hope for the best; since it is for charity, it will fit someone. This will fit a wee premmie.

Enjoyed this knit and it will be a favourite to return to the needles. What size? Unsure!

I also have finished 14/24 Diamonds of Purple Pram Cover, and 8/24 coloured Pram Cover. The way I am going about these the babies will be 1yr old. Now I was making the Purple for darling Amealia; and the Coloured for Benjamin, but I am thinking I may have to swap the recipients. Unsure whether dear Benjamin will need much; as Great Grandma and Grandma will be knitting for him, and soon more than likely mum. I do know that Grandma is knitting her way through Burp cloths at the moment.

That is all for now. We have District Ball Games on Friday; so off we go to cheer on the school (if the rain holds up!).

Damien,

Dad and I are very proud of you making all of the above. We are very excited that you were picked for drums with the Junior School Band. (Can we borrow some Ear plugs from someone?). Surprised that you made the Junior School Choir, (we didn't think you could sing). School Ball Games Team for district, well that is something new for us!
Soccer, well say no more that is outside of school until Term 3.

We are both just wondering, when will you be in class and doing what we sent you to school to do, LEARN.

Yes, we both said school was fun, but still. Yes, we both enjoyed these extra curriculum activities too. That is why we are shaking our heads. Oh well, Have fun.

Thanks to some lovely Ravelryers. This previous problem has been solved. I am know doing the join as per Yarn Loopie. I have adjusted her Modification a little. I think it is more my interpretation of the instructions.

My Modifications are:-

* slip last st knitwise

* Pick up and Knit 1st from 'bump'

* PSSO

* turn

* Slip 1st st purl wise, knit to end.

My 'seam' is nice and neat. I will take some photos when I have a little more done. I cheated in the frogging as well, I just frogged too the 1st time I joined....blast doing a double corner again when I don't have to.

Also Congratulations are in order for the new Grandparents & parents. To Lynne, WM, DD & SIL. Welcome to the world Mr Benjamin Alexander. You will be spoilt rotten with hand knits! Not only from your mum, grandma, great grandma, but all of their friends as well. I hope that your Grandma Lynne is giving you heaps of huggles from me. xxxxx

Like many other Ravelryers. I have joined the ranks of a Ravolympics knitter. My race is the 'Charity Curling'. I will be trying to do as many Dead Muppet scarves, and normal Beanies as possible.

During this I am also trying to set my own WIP Wrestling goals.

Tangled Yarns February KAL/CAL is blankets. So I thought even though I will not be eligible for prizes, I will join. Kelly is fine with this. I decided that I would do the 10 stitch blanket. Designer Frankie Brown (Free Rav link). Looked easy, which it is; BUT I am NOT happy with the join, and need opinions. I am ready to frog and use yarn for beanies.

Please comment nicely, (which I know you will).

Dolphins At Kingscliff

Yesterday took us for a drive down to beautiful Kingscliff; Nthn NSW Beach Town. I spent my teenage and early 20's here. Mum still lives here in the house, dad & her built 25yrs ago.

Why the visit. To see mum & my bro Robert; but also to see the 3 dolphins that decided to visit. They have been there now for about 1 week. Apparently the pup is injured, (not enough to beach itself though); the other 2 maybe mum & dad. Then on Sunday morning another 2 appeared. According to the local fishermen, (my bro included) there is a lot of Mackarel out at the reef, meaning a lot of Tiger Sharks.

On either Wednesday or Thursday night; Seaworld/Parks and Wildlife etc, did try and move them out, but the clever dolphins found a clearing and swam back.

So to heal the family have decided to rest in Cudgera Creek.

Here are the photos; the yellow buoys are the exclusion zone. The creek is no more than 50 metres in width. The depth of the water on high tide approx 8 ft; low tide 4ft. The bridge where they are resting is about 2kms from the creek inlet.

There also is a small photo of the bream in the creek; so food is not a problem.

The pup is becoming more active and curious so they will move when they are ready.

Reducing Medications

Last week, my Dr advised me that it is time to start reducing my Anti-depressants slowly. I am taking Effexor. I was taking 3 x 75mg tabs a day. Yes for some people this is not much; but it is what I needed at the time.

I have been on Anti-depressants now for over 8yrs, increasing and decreasing the dosage as required. My major goal is to be anti-depressant free. There is NO time limit on this goal. I started this goal approx 2yrs ago; instead of decreasing though it had to be increase.

So I am now taking 2 x 75grms / day. Eventually the Dr want's me on just 1 x 150grm / day. That will take about 2 mths, when the body adjusts to the decrease in medication.

Although I am thrilled about the decrease; I am NOT thrilled with the body withdrawing. To deal with the jitters (Withdrawal) the Dr advised to exercise. Go for a walk, etc. Well that is okay between 6am and 7pm and Taz is benefiting, but after that, and with the heat; well would you walk? So the exercise bike has come out of the closet. Last night I started jittering around 2am. So I hopped on the bike; Woke everyone up. Yes it was very noisy. Hubby was not impressed. So I paced around the backyard for about 1hr. Dog wasn't impressed and I wasn't impressed when I trod in something.

So today I tried the bike again. 15mins; 5.5kms; 196 Calories. No jitters after. So at this rate can you imagine the weight I ~~might~~ will lose; and I will get fit. So now I am killing to goals with 1 exercise bike.

This afternoon Steve oiled the squeak so I will not wake the neighbourhood tonight.

Opinion: I thought that I would have difficulty with the BO's and decreases when I 1st read the pattern through, but once I started I had no difficulty at all. Just had to remember that on the rows that the decrease bought out an even number to K2 at the armhole edge. This only happened approx 4 times all up on the fronts.

Why the fuss?

Could someone please let me know why all the fuss for new year? Yes I wish everyone a happy, healthy, wealthy New Year.

But isn't a day how WE make it. Yes I set goals; but I set 1 at a time; once it has been reached set the next.

I am a Party Pooper. I will be in bed by 10pm; hopefully asleep by 12am. Mind you that sleep is medicated with pain Killers.

Why you ask? Because of this.

Cause:- 23rd Dec 2009 Right Ankle giving way. Me falling head 1st down our driveway. I think I must have twisted my Left lower leg on the way down.

Spent Xmas Day With my feet up; well not really but sitting down. Still in a lot of pain. No fractures on either leg. Still a lot of swelling and bruising is now evident all the left calf. As Steve says when I do damage I don't do things in halves. Well at least I didn't end up in plaster....

It has now been 12mths since the giant move, have I regrets... No for me regrets are learning balls thrown to us. If I regret it means to me I haven't learnt.
Yes there were many negatives at the start; still are some! But the positives are now out weighing them. For Damien the move has never been better. (except for the education system; that is for another time). The environment is just what a 9yr old needs. Reminds me of my playing kid days in Sydney. For Steve well; permanently negative. For me; I am slowly starting to make friends, none as close to me as my BF's in Sydney. I really don't think that will ever happen.

I have been able to get 2 Knitting for Brisbane's Needy Knit n Natters, so slowly am meeting other will minded crafties. I am actually biting the bullet and having one at my place in the New Year. Actually it is mainly to see old friends from Sydney and meet new friends around my area.

Knitting has been slow as I am knitting 3 Special Projects. One due early Jan, (nearly finished); the next end Jan; and the next Feb. I am hoping the end of Feb recipient doesn't mind it a little late.

Presently have 7 projects on the needles (yes don't fall off your chair: you read right). Concentrating on SP #1. But I can't see at night to knit so have some bright coloured jumpers on the needles. I am now going to show you 2 projects on the needles.

One other is a KAL being run by Bernat. It is a Mystery Afghan. The other is Milo. A sweet Singlet top in 5 designs. Just scroll down about twice and you should see it under Patterns for sale.

That is my update for the next few weeks. Being Xmas / New Year period; like many busy.

Thanks to the lovely Lynne and her post; I didn't realise that there was such a day as today.

What a great initiative.

This is a quote from the website; which I find so true.

'Most people do not openly share their feelings, particularly when they are struggling, so do not wait for a sign – trust your instincts. A conversation could change a life. The best thing you can do is regularly ask the people you care about: “Are you ok?” regardless of whether they are at risk or not. Connection is good for us all.'

I realise this is so hard to do; being a sufferer of depression, most people don't want to know if "I am ok?". Why? Because sometime I am NOT OKAY, I just need some one to listen. You don't have to take it in, just be my ear! I don't want understanding. I just need to get things out, then I feel better.

I am not sure if this is the case for everyone, but for me it is. And here is my best ear!

MUM HIS NAME IS TAZ

A year is nearly over since our move to the Ipswich District, Qld. We have all settled in very well. Mikey is loving the great outdoors; mind you he is in by 8.30pm. He sleeps inside somewhere during the hours of 9.30am - 12pm. Wakes up goes out to toilet, runs around with the neighbourhood cat gang; (which he is leader) then in again, eat, drink, sleep. Oh the life of a cat.

Back to Taz. We have always promised Damien another dog; so yesterday at Fernvale Country Markets, we found him.
He is an Australian Shepherd. 10 weeks old.

Wondering whether I really am a knitter?

A few days ago I was reading Lynne's post here, and started wondering what is wrong with ME :)

For some peculiar reason I am able to say NO! I have come to realise that I do finish an item straight away including buttons. Why? Weird? Obsessive!

I will admit that I have broken my idea of only working on 1 project at a time. At the moment I have NO projects on the needles, that is because I have just finished the knitting of a Child's Size 4 Cardigan, while plonked on the lounge watching Bathurst, recovering from yesterdays trounce around Movie World. Sewing and buttons to go.

I have waiting in my knitting bag, Yarn and a pattern for 2 special projects, which unfortuneately unless you are on Ravelry will not be revealed until after February. I have to actually knit a swatch for these projects because the yarn is a different ply than the pattern. I am knitting 1 in 5ply and the other in 4ply. The pattern calls for 3ply. So please wish me luck.

The other project being cast on will be....... yes you guessed... a dead muppet scarf.... LOL

Twenty Wishes

Recently I finished Debbie Macomber's book 'Twenty Wishes'. Without giving away the good read, it is about a group of friends (widowed) and how on Valentines Day they start a wish list. These wishes could be as far fetched and whimsical as you wanted them to be. NOT GOALS.

I had me thinking 'What a fantastic idea'. So in all my wisdom I have started writing my 'Twenty Wishes'. I have 5 on my list at present. No I am not sharing because they are personal. Okay I will share 1; Use my STASH. Now is that as impossible, far fetched, and whimsical I could get? Well not really #1 is far more outlandish.

While on my blog vacation. Much knitting has been accomplished. I will not show all today, just 1/post. So that is decided. I have to post another 10 times, without adding to the finished list. LOL

This is how I look after yesterday at hairdressers.

Yes I did it again. Cut short and coloured - Aubergine. Yesterday it looked very purple, but today has settled to a purple reddish colour and I love it. Wash and Wear. Steve weeellll loves the colour; the cut is another story.

Finding time to post has been impossible since starting work, but I have so much to tell, will post lots of short storties soon.

By the way congratulations to Lynne's DD & SIL. Just what am I going to knit your soon arrival.

A Chronic Illness

After many weeks of battering tests, hospital stays, x rays, scans etc. I finally know what has been bugging me for the past 6 -12 mths.

I have been diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis - commonly known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. You can read more about it here.

I have been knitting for about 1/2hr / day. So not much is getting very far. Some days I can't knit at all. Some time even getting out of bed is too much. My boys have been fantastic and so understanding especially Damien. Steve has been the best husband anyone could want. I have been overwhelmed by the understanding, caring, the don't worry about it attitude he has given me. I knew I had found my soul mate, but I have seen another side of the man I love, and I will forever be gracious.

During the course of the next few months; my Doctor will be trying different things, ie medications, techniques etc. So once again I may be off the air for quite a while.

What caused my CFS? We cannot exactly pinpoint it, but in about Sept 2008, I become quite ill with a viral infection. I didn't shake it; The GP, Specialist and I, have come to the conclusion that it may have been a combination of the infection, stress, and depression.

I DO NOT want your sympathy, just the understanding that I may not blog for a while, or the blogs will be short, or photo filled.

We nearly did float away in the floods a while back. This is our backyard at 1pm. By 3 pm it was lapping at the concrete patio. Thank goodness Steve arrived home and took a few fence palings off and it dissapated.

Qld Teachers Strike

Public school teachers in Qld decided to go out on a workers strike today, fighting for an increase in wages.

I do agree that they (like nurses) they are worth every penny we give to them.

Monday - Friday; 8.30am - 3pm they teach, care, and protect my cherub. This does not include the time they spend before and after school on extra activities.

Now I praise them for what they do for my cherub. They then have to deal with the imps!

I volunteer in the school canteen 1 day / week, so I see what they are up against.

Bring back the Stick!

Mothers Day

Today we celebrate and appreciate our mums. Why?

I feel that we should not celebrate and appreciate people on just 1 day of the year. We should appreciate everyone in our lives; every single day!

Admittedly I received a cup of coffee in bed this morning, with a beautiful hand made card from Damien. He was a little upset that there was no present. So during a morning huggle (a Damien word from when he was little; hug and a snuggle/cuddle) I tried to explain (the best I could to an 8yr old) he was the best present that I have every received in my life.

For me that unexpected cuddle, the cheeky grin, the fun and laughter we have together as a family is all I need.

Yesterday my (QLD) family spent a beautiful afternoon at a lovely restaurant, (very similar to Hogs Breath Cafe) right next to the Nerang River/Broadwater at Southport; celebrating Mothers Day together; mum, aunt (mum's sister), sister #2 and her family, brother #1, niece (Brother #3's daughter), Steve, Damien & I. Last weekend my sister; her daughter and son, and mum flew down the Sydney and spent the weekend with the NSW family. Mum felt very special. Which we try to do all the time.

Today was a lovely autumn's day spent with MIL. BBQ at our place for MIL, SIL, Hubby & Us. Also special for MIL, as it was her annivesary. We miss you so much dad. Steve was the cook; Mikey snoozed on the bed. Damien played with mates outside, and the 3 ladies chatted and drank too much coffee. SIL made a scrumptious Tiramasu, and yes the alcohol went to my head after I had eaten it.

This morning on waking, I felt sadden when my thoughts went to all the ladies, who unfortunately are unable to experience the joys of motherhood. The mothers who have lost. Mothers whose offspring are many miles away. Mothers whose offspring just don't care anymore.

I appreciate you everyday of the week. For this I thank you.

Alrighty then. Lets have a look at what I have been knitting for Lynne's unofficial winter KAL.

Firstly I made this in March, I sewed on some buttons, but they were too small. So a trip to the newly opened Spotlight at Ipswich; some buttons were found. Actually two lots of buttons were purchased. Yes that is correct nice buttons at Spotlight.

I was going to gift this to the gorgeous Khyra for her 3rd birthday, but a phone call to her mum, let me know about her sizes; way off Rell.

I have this month broken my promise to myself about only having 1 WIP at a time; I now have 4 WIP's.

On the needles; I have

a) the usual dead muppet (feather & eyelash) scarf

b) A Panda Crinkle jumper. Just a plain stocking stitch attempt on circulars, using a straight pattern.

c) Another jumper made in Cleckheaton Flair, in Fuchsia, ready for Khyra.

d) I am attempting a K2, YO, scarf in Sullivans Chenille in 4ply. I DO NOT like this yarn but have 20 balls of it. So if this scarf turns out okay, there will be more.

So that is it for the time being. Sorry about the delays between post, but that's life!

With great anticipation I have been waiting for Spotlight in West Ipswich to open. It has been about 4 months since I have been into a Yarn store, excluding Big W for buttons.

So on Tuesday 10th March 2009, after dropping Damien off at school, I like hundreds of others drove our way into Ipswich, for the Grand Opening.

I thought I would be clever and arrive around 9.30am, thinking that many people would either be gone, or not come. Guess what I was wrong. I had no idea of how popular it would be. So parking a few streets away, (I didn't attempt the car park) I strolled in; made my way to the yarn section. I was surprised, there was nobody in that section. I had it all to myself, the whole 4 aisles. So I meandered slowly looking at all the pretties, and noted that ACS was NOT on special. Looking for the new range of Cleckheaton Kaleidoscope was my main mission. I was disappointed as there was none. (Not unusually). But I got to squish some bamboo, drool all over the colour range of baby yarns. Admire the new Jet & Inca. Trying very hard to stay away from the novelty yarns.

I failed. Just could not help my self. The aisle and shelves were jam packed with gorgeous new colours of feathers (dead muppet) and eyelash yarn. Oh heaven. Just in time for the charity I am knitting for this month. So in my attempt of not buying, I strolled to the button aisle. (Big Disappointment). I suppose I am so used to the button range at Penrith store in NSW. I did happen to get a few colours that I wanted.

So in a nutshell this is what happened. Mind you I did plan on buying some muppet and eyelash, to match what I had at home.

I don't think Mikey was impressed.

I don't have a problem.

Putting it Out There

A long winded post, that will make no sense to you the reader, because it hardly makes any sense to me

Over the past few months I have been feeling like I am going right on a round-about and can't seem to find the left hand turn.

So after reading a few books about life in general. I am going to take a few from each book, and try and sort things out.

1. The power of God and Prayer
2. The power of Positive (+ve) thinking
3. The power of visualisation
4. The power of putting what I want to the universe.

I have been attempting a few little things over the past 6 months and good things have come about, but one that I really will get out of my system is the self doubt.

I will no longer have feeling of self doubt, and I will strive to become a more positive person.

So I have now put this into my blog.

There are many other things that I would like in my life; I have to become more house orientated. I will be striving to do a little housework each day. I will be doing more unpacking and get a room / week organised.

I prayer that at 2am that I will not wake and have thought muddling through my brain until 5am. I positively feel that I will sleep through the night tonight.

I prayer also that my CFS is not returning and that I will be more able to become active during the day.

AMEN.

MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE DEVASTATION THAT HAS OCCURRED IN NORTHERN QLD, due to flooding; AND VICTORIA, due to Bush Fires.

Hi Everyone.
This weekend has been filled with fun family orientated activities.

On Saturday Damien & I went down to my sister's and enjoyed a lovely day visiting. Who was there, well my eldest Sister flew up from Gosford (Central Coast NSW) on Friday to spend the weekend with us all. So it was a real family affair, only person missing was my eldest younger brother.

What were we celebrating. Nothing really. Just the enjoyment of family.

My niece went a bit camera happy and started snapping shots, before we were ready, and my eldest sister is a character and just was cracking us all up.

In between mum and dad had 2 boys.

The family had an enjoyable lovely lunch at the Boathouse Tavern (I think) Coomera. Damien enjoyed the outdoor activities.

And Mikey well he enjoyed being inside all day enjoying the company of Steve and the Air Conditioner. But today he was outside enjoying the cool breeze.

I turn my back and his looking up at the roof.

Wondering if he saw one of his friends.

Presently I have on the needles - A Shepherd Raglan Cardigan in Needleworks 4ply. (Old Myer/Grace Bros yarn)

Needleworks yarn is 100% Pure Wool and is made in NZ. It has approx 77 metres / 25grams.

I actually am upset that this yarn is no longer available because the colours were bright and the yarn really nice and soft.

Congratulations to Lynne, for beating the Mrytle Leaf Shawl, with time to spare.

Finally a cat update. He is now off the roof and on the table.

Okay so that is not quite the name of the play/movie, but it was quite funny.

Okay so what was funnier, Mikey stuck on the roof or Steve, Damien & I trying to get him down.

We decided to teach him a lesson and kept him up there. The next time we looked there was a Ginger Tabby up there as well.

He eventually got down. How we know not. But we don't think he will go chasing frogs up the drain pipe again.

New Year, New Me

Changes! Yes is 2009 the year of changes for me.

Lets see. Just before 2009 we moved to a NEW state. So I thought okay what can I do that is new for me. NOTHINGI

That is right I'm not going to do anything different this year than any other years. Okay so I have changed my blog around. Comments are welcomed.

And if you are going to say that the opening photo is too huge, well it ain't gonna change. When Damien and I first saw this photo on the web somewhere, we both looked at each other and said, 'Zeus & Mikey'. Comparison photos.

I must say though my biggest decision this year is to Stashbust. As you can see on the sidebar I have a little entry for all the Stash yarn I use this year. (This is also being helped by Senior, who has insisted only 1 box of yarn in the house at once.) So everytime I open a box it will be like opening Pandora's Box; because I have no idea what will be discovered. Also I am going to go through my pattern stash and try and knit a garment from each pattern. Hence a lot of cursing will more than likely be going on in this house.

What patterns I don't like, or think are Yuck, well be going to be sold on Ebay, Oztion or Aussiebid.

So what has been happening around here?

On the home front:
Poor Miss Mazda has thrown her gearbox :( which means while Steve is at work, Damien and I are sort of stuck at home. Mind you, I could attempt to find out about the public transport around the area, but Damien hasn't complained about not having anything to do. He is always coming and going. I honestly think he is enjoying his 'freedom'. But what he doesn't realise is that I can see him.

It also is helping me keep unpacking. I am trying to unpack a box a day. Mind you the boxes are medium boxes so hence it keeps me busy. Also Steve has unleashed me with the lawnmower.

On the knitting front:
I have decided not to attempt to block the shawl until Damien has returned to school. I have a few questions in regards to this, but that is for a later date.

I have knitted my 1st garment for charity. A cardigan for a baby. Photos will be added to this post tomorrow.

I really would like to start a slide show on the side bar, so if anyone knows how to help me with this please help. Then we can see how the projects are going all year. :) REMEMBER though I am NOT that technically minded so layman/child terms are fine! LOL

I also have added the 'knit meter' but am thinking of deleting it. Just don't feel it is for me.

So hence that is it for now. Must go make a coffee.

Hi Everyone,

Just a short post today, letting you all know that we are well, but Damien & I are just about over living out of boxes. At least we still have a bed until next weekend. Yeah Steve is coming.

I will be going off line from the middle of next week until mid January. I want to give us time to settle into our new place. I have put my foot down, and decided that after 2 moves 1 week before xmas, never again. (Famous last words).

To all my great cyber friends. Thank you for all your friendship throughout 2008. All the best for 2009.

Christmas Shopping

While reading a few post today. I have come to the realisation that I will have to do some shopping for the lives down here. Especially for the children at school and the teacher.

Fitknit has inspired the Christmas card shopping. I will attempt to make 30 of these and stuff full of lollies.

Rialla-T solved the teacher shopping with these beautiful bookmarks.

So apart from family shopping, which I know what we are doing. My Christmas should be filled with laughter, sadness and lots of family.

Was 39yrs ago today

Well I think maybe a little like 9mths and 39yrs today I started.

Yes that's right. Why am I blogging this you may ask.

TO REMIND STEVE

On this day 4th November 1969, a horse called (hang on I have to google the name) Rain Lover won it's 2nd Melbourne cup. Unsure why the Sex is an "h" maybe he hadn't been 'g' yet!! Who knows.

Well that year my dad ended up with his 5th child, 3rd daughter. Time of birth. 3.10pm. Where was my father (god bless him), Apparently down the local, watching the race. Good on Him.

To all of you who have a flutter 'Good luck'. Yes I do have a flutter: $1 each way on Simon O'Donnell's horse 'Bauer' and 2 x $1 Mystery Trifecta. That's my $4 spent. Will let you know later if it was well spent or not.

Funny thing is I have just listened to the news and it's "Raining" in Melbourne. Could this be a good omen. Yes keep laughing.

Oh well time to get Damien up and ready for school. 'Crazy Hat Day'

No Post Lately

No post or photos lately, just been too busy packing for the big move to Qld.

Knitting news:

Ladies at school have realised that I won't be there for winter scarf knitting next year, have quite a few orders to fill.

Charity Knitting is coming along nicely, scarves, beanies etc.

Thinking about joining Bells 'Long Lacy Summer' so that I would finish my shawl; still procrastinating about joining. It is a 'Clayton' LAL as my good friend Lynne pointed out. So perhaps after the move I will get stuck into it.

Home front:

Steve has secured a full time position in Rocklea, Brisbane. Damien, Mikey & I say so long see you in 6 weeks, next week, so tears there will be. Not from Damien, but from me. Steve & I have never been apart for so long in our 16yrs together. So we are now starting to look for rental properties. Much to the delight of Damien, we are looking in and around an area called Springfield.
(Wonder how many Simpson's live there).

Damien informed us both that he has received all his ticks (marks for behaviour) to receive his Gold Certificate; At the moment we have only 2 green Achievement Awards in his scrapbook, so another 3 to be handed out before he actually receives his Gold. So very proud.

So as you can see not much except packing is happening in the Rell world. Just thought I'd blog to let you all know that I'm still here and well. Yes that's right a well Rell.

I'm in Lourve - Really

Just a short blog today with no photos.

I am in lourve!!!!

I have finally splurged on some Knit Pick Circular needles. Only 2 but hey slow and steady wins this race.

After using Birch because of convenience and price, I then ventured out and bought some Addi's. Which I adore; like that the cable/needle join is smooth and doesn't snag the wool.

With much ado about Knit Pick's I thought mmmm I might just have to give them a try. Biggest draw card is that they are PURPLE! So I was lucky to have some $$ enter our bank account from the tax man, so the start of my adventure.

My internet adventure started at Prestige Yarns; then ventured to Tapestry Craft. I am not going to tell you who my purchase ended up with, but I have now a 3.25mm & 4mm Knit Pick Circular Needle 40cm in Harmony. (being a Knit Pick Virgin, I pray the wood ones are called Harmony).

Eight years ago today

Well actually about February 2000 it all started, I can't remember exactly. Many months of sickness, bloating, elation and just general happiness, we came to Monday 2nd October 2000, I was admitted to Nepean Public Hospital in Penrith, NSW.

Why was I admitted, well High Blood Pressure, and very high Creatine levels, (not really good for a lady with 1 kidney); both my urologist & Obstetrician decide weeks of bed rest, with toilet privileges, blah.

During this week my Creatine levels did not reduce, but skyrocketed to dangerous levels, for both myself and the blob.

So on Friday 6th October, I was medically induced. (and the blob had not even dropped yet). So hence at 1am Saturday 7th October, everything started happening. 12 hours later and still the blob was being good and listened to daddy and was still hanging on for dear life not wanting to enter this world. Giving mummy hell.

So a Cesarean was called for because the blob started stressing, 'don't worry about the mum here'. 1.54pm Saturday 7th October 2000, Damien Steven Baker entered this world.

8 glorious, wonderful, years later; he still obeys his dad & gives his mum hell. But hey isn't that what kids are for.

Yes everyone I am still here. Been so busy with many things happening in the Rell household.

I lost my knitting mojo there for about 4 weeks, I have a feeling it stayed in Qld, when we came back home. But now it is back with a vengeance; I have made 3 x baby items, with another 2 on the needles.

My shawl is still in hibernation, as I have not the time to concentrate on it at the moment.

I will blog later in regards to the knitting with pictures.

Now for the big news!!! Yes I can finally blog this news as all the family is aware.

THE RELL RAMBLING FAMILY IS MOVING TO QLD PERMANENTLY

Yes that is correct, we are moving out of the Sydney Rat race to the nice quiet country life of Qld.We are all very excited. D is telling all his friends that they can come for holidays; he is going to Movie World; he is going to the beach every day; (no S & I haven't disillusioned him yet!) Let him dream. We will be about an hours drive from there.

S is busy packing up the shed, as he is moving up prior to D & I; he is panicking as he will be the one finding a house; looking for work etc. I will be here until the middle of Dec. So from now till then I will busy packing; cleaning; getting the gardens & pool ready for the final inspection.

Don't fret, Mikey is coming with us. D & I have planned the trip in the car with him. Yes we might let him loose in the car, as he loves traveling.

Onto other news. D is the school's 'Student of the Week' this upcoming week 15th Sept. He was so thrilled to get it, he thought another girl in his class was to get it. He was a little bit upset, that 'Gaby Bear' didn't come home for the weekend; but he was at the Bathurst Camp with Year 6. Gaby Bear is a little NRMA Careflight Bear, that the student of the week gets to keep on his/her desk for the week. They also receive a certificate, and their name is put on the school notice board for all to see in the community. I will get pics next week.

So apart from school, slowly getting the house packed. Life has not been doing much around here.

I must admit I am addicted to 'Facebook'; mainly for the games. Rialla-T is my undoing for getting me started on a game called 'Pack Rat'. But I am also guilty for others like WW and most my friends started on it.

So hopefully next blog will not be this long apart. But life just too much sometimes. Hectic that is.

A Sad trip to Qld

The phone call that S & I had been hoping would never come, arrived Tuesday morning 22/07. We packed the car, secured the house, said goodbye to Mikey at the Cattery, and with heavy hearts travelled nearly 900kms north along the New England Hwy on Friday.

With a little stop approx every 2hrs, we made the trip in good time, taking only about 10hrs. Trip home was worse, (but that comes at the end of my story).

Have life changing decisions been made on this trip? Well you will have to keep reading later blogs to find out.

It was great catching up with our family, seeing our new little boy. OH he is sooooo gorgeous, and yes I got clucky just having a cuddle. I also have asked the nephews and nieces to please stop sprouting. Male J is now nearly 6ft tall! (guesstamating). Well to my 5' 2" he seems that tall.

Auntie J you are just the best. (from D). Yes Auntie J had her laptop with games. Auntie C your cooking is lovely. 1st time we saw D finish all his dinner. I must admit I was taking notes in my head while C & J were cooking, trying to emanate their meals for S & D, don't think that will every happen esp with J being a qualified chef. LOL, but they did eat my Bacon Cabonara last night, with even a yum mum from D. Okay I cheated by using the packet sauce mix, but hey it got eaten, and I had to cook the bacon & fettucini!

Surprise saying of the trip:
S "would you like to stop at the Nundle Wool Mill",
L "No, we really must get up there" (mind you a choked on my mintie when asked!)
L "What would you have said if I said yes"
S "Tough luck, cos we ain't stopping" (What a tease!)

Poor S & D were amongst knitters knitting scarves the night before we left, had Nanna, Auntie C & J all on the needles again. Yeah me! LOL. We visited the cheapo shop in Laidley, and I came out with NO YARN. So good! or just know that I would have been screamed at. What more wool!

With no tears, but hugs and promises, we left Laidley, and headed south to Kingscliff. Well we made it as far as Ipswich when I get a message on my phone: You have left your purse on the back seat of my car! giggle giggle.
Just typical Rell behaviour. So a round trip was made, delaying us an hour. Yes S, I admit it was MY FAULT.

A visit to my mums for a night, just to see how she was going. Mind you I was a day ahead of myself. Please don't feel that I didn't stay at mums for a short period, mum was only in Sydney a few months ago, and this trip was for Steve not me.

Heading out Thursday morning 7.30 (31/07) we decided that we would go the Pacific Hwy (M1) until we reach a town that can direct us to the New England. Fat chance of that happening, not 1 sign along the Pacific Hwy directed you towards the west. And the roadworks!!!! Will that road every be completed, don't think it will in my lifetime!

So waving to a few Ravelry friends along the way, we reached Hexham at 4.30pm. Not wanting to hit Hornsby at peak hour, we headed towards Maitland, which would head us out to Singleton. Reaching Singleton at 5.30, I resigned to the fact that we wouldn't make the cattery in time to pick up Mikey. Bugger those roadworks.

We reached Kurrajong exactly at 7.30, with S & D amazed that is the time I told them we would arrive. (Yes I knew it took 2hrs), stopped at Coles for some milk, bread & Chicken for tea. Headed home. D complaining that it was a boring trip. Mind you for the last 4hrs he & I swapped seats.

Picked up the Mikster on Friday, took him awhile to adjust to being home, but I received my cuddle as soon as he stepped out of his carrier. Could you tell I missed him tremendously, even though Mum B has a cat Boots, he is flighty and doesn't like strangers patting him. But Boots I won in the end, you allowed me to pat you.

Just a little blog for you today.

I have started the Luna Moth Shawl for myself. At the present stage I have knitted 3 pattern repeats.

With the help of my cyber & Ravelry girlfriend Woolie Wombat, I discovered the provisional cast on (crochet method).

What made me decide to knit myself a shawl. Well the short hair and cold weather thats what! Yes I cut my hair in the wrong season. Oh well at least I now know what a neck feels like cold... brrrrr

So my Charity knitting has been relegated to computer & night knitting. At present I am making a baby Cardigan using Patons Feathersoft in 3ply.

Time for me to make you all jealous.

Recently Vingtage Grrl & I took a trip to "The Turpentine Tree" to observe the "Back to Back Challange".

The back to back Challenge for the uninitiated is where a jumper is made to fit the shearer. The shearer shears the sheep. The fleece is then carded, spun, plied, then knitted.

The Kurrajong ladies placed 4th in the world on time, and were 1st in the fundraising. The money raised by them goes to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

So why am I making you jealous. Well there were a few little raffles going on. And a per usual I made a donation of about $3 to them all.

Well this little lucky duck WON. Yes you heard me right I WON - ALPACA FIBRE.

Quite humourous really as I DON'T spin. But don't worry that has been sorted.

So for all of you here are my lovelies.

Some lovely white, Caramel Chocolate Natural Alpaca Fibre.

And how could we forget Mikey getting into the Alpacky love !!!

The Long & Short of .......

THE LONG & Straight (Hairdresser done) 1yr ago. Hair has been about this length for the last 12mths. But much curlier. (Natural)

As you can imagine. I loved the colour, but hated the look of straight hair, not being used to it. I think it lasted about 2 days :)

THE SHORT - 3rd June 2008

A much happier Rell, well after the 20kgs weight loss, see that double chin (LOL) I think I lost about another 3kgs in hair today. Natural colour & curl.

Where has time gone. Here I was typing away thinking it was only yesterday that I last posted, and it's been 3 weeks. So what has been happening in the land of Rell. LOTS!!!!!

The home front:-
We have had to say goodbye to Ozzy. Yes the new neighbour complained about his barking to the real estate, so he has gone to live somewhere else. I must admit I really wasn't that attached to him. I feel that he was bought to soon after Zeus passed away. But oh it is heaven to be able to have sun dried clothes again :) Maybe the electricity bill by go down.

Apart from us all having the sniffles, thanks to Mstr D, we are all well.

The knitting front:-
1. Damiens Fishermans Rib Jumper
Is progressing quickly. I have just started the divide for the V neck this morning, and have about 30 odd rows for the 1st side. Damien is quite impressed. He may actually get to wear it this Winter.

2. 5hr Quick Knit Jumper - The Fiber Gypsy.
Is completed in more than 5hrs. Yes it took about 3 days. Okay I had many a break in between, but boy it was a fast knit when I did get into it.
Yarn used - Moda Dea Sassy Stripes in Crush 100% Acrylic

3. Knit One Give One (KOGO) Beanies

I have two completed and will send to Wondoflex on Monday. I have enough yarn left to make another 2 but will make the base colour Gold instead of Green.

4. V Neck Raglan Jumper
Upto the armhole decrease on the back.Yarn using - Cleckheatons Natural Unsure of the colours & Dyelots, but in the stripe combination it is not noticable (hopefully)

5. Premmie Items.
Have made Honeycomb Beanie, Christopher Hat and Basic Bootees. They are so so tiny.

6. Knit for Charities KAL's
KAL #1 Is going to be sewn up for blankets. Yes it is Spongebob Squarepants!

KAL #2 A pair of tiny premmie Booties

KAL #3 is completed. Well I have yet to complete it, have about another 10+ rows to go. So hence no picture.

Purchases
No yarn has been purchased in these weeks, BUT I have purchased some lovely handmade Stitch markers from Vintage Grrl on Etsy.

School
It is Education Week for NSW. Windsor Public School is having their Open Day on Monday 26h May, so I will be at the school the whole day (what's new). D is performing at the assembly, and is also receiving his Bronze Achievement Award. So better charge the batteries on the Video & Digital Camera.

Random Acts of Kindness

Well I have been inundated with lovely surprise packages from many fellow Ravelers and I have also sent some lovely packages to recipients. I will admit though, mine were not of the yarny kind, but of the other lovely non knitting/crocheting wishes.

I will admit that I have been very lack lustre with the camera, and have no photos to share at the moment, but will add them in later. (Yeah sure Rell! I can here voices)

From my dear cyber friend Vintage Grrl who has helped me out of a embarrassing situation (yes I once again have ran out of wool)

- a ball of Panda Woolbale in Red to finish the boatneck jumper.

- Some love flutter for the headbands

- and some beautiful hand dyed purple gradient 8ply Cleckheaton Crepe.

- I also purchased some Moda Dea Sassy Stripes in Crush.

Another lovely lady Rhonda from my neck of the woods, has been destashing and has sent me 2 parcels for my charity knitting, I will be making beanies for the Penrith Homeless.

Parcel 1 was received back in March which included 2 balls @ of Cleckheaton Country Naturals, Country Navy, Lincraft Lima in Camel & Fawn.

Parcel 2 received last week -

- 2 balls of Cleckheaton Nature Wool Boucle in Maroon and Greeny Grey flecked with Maroon
- 2 x Panda Backen Tweed in Grey/Blue flecked with Camel
- 1 x Harmony 10ply `
- 3 x Lincraft Poodle in Blue
- 1 x Lima in Fawn

Then this box arrived 3 days later from Jaffa7 (aka Kelly)

- 2 x Moda Vera Sorbet in Purple Gradient (mmm Yummy)
- 9 x Purls of Yarn in various colours of Variegated Yarns
- 2 x Target Nomad Dark Bottle Green
- 3 x Moda Vera Manor in Variegated Reds & Greens.

All these yarns will be put to good use in my Charity Knitting. I am anxiously awaiting to cast on some baby/toddlers items with the Variegated Purls of Yarns.

2hot2knit you are in my prayers for a fast recovery from Frozen shoulder. And very happy belated Birthday for the 1st. And Congrats on DD's engagement. :) Hope you can knit real soon. And just for you I will not show the finished item in the Knit 4 Charities 1st ever KAL (Knit-a-long)

Oh my dear Blog readers, my 1000 apologies. I have neglected you all. Well I did warn you that school canteen had started :)

Well it has been approx 3 weeks since last blog and lots has happened. I am not going to bore you all with everything, just the good bits. Cheeky aren't I.

Finished articles.

Beanies, beanies and beanies. Well 6 have been finished, 2 have stayed in house.

A nice little bonnet and mitten set.

And another pair of mittens to finish the up the lovely donated 8ply from Neekie.

Also finished but no photo, the blanket strip for Knitting for Brisbanes Needy. All these items will be going to Karen for the Mayoress Day in Brisbane City Hall in May.

Nearly finished Objects.

Boat Neck Jumper in Toddler Size 4. Back, Front, 1 &1/2 sleeve finished. Yes I did it again. Forgot to check the meterage on the substitute yarn. The lovely Vintage Grrl has come to my rescue yet again.

No photo but have to sew up and do bands of a lovely Black Size 2 Jumper with Cables down the middle of the front. Shepherd pattern, made with Cleckheaton Country 8ply, and I DIDN'T RUN OUT OF YARN!!!

On the needles.

A lovely little Lace Beanie in Patons Feathersoft. Sandra Rose design. Knitting up beautifully on 2.75 & 3.25 circulars.

Still to finish the gloves, just haven't been happy with them since they don't fit hubby. But better get them finished for his mate.

Pipedreams.

Next on the sticks will be I promise my 1st ever pair of socks. Which is going to be knitted in this. A lovely Opal sock yarn. I would love to do a lacy pair of socks, but feel for the 1st attempt a nice stocking stitch pair would be best.
Damien has asked politely (in a 7yr old way) for a Fishermans Ribbed V Neck Jumper, so I guess that will have to be next on the sticks after my socks.

And lastly I am going to brag about my .75c balls of yarn from Kmart Mt Druitt.

Ready, here goes.

That's right, your eyes are NOT deceiving you that is Patons Zhivago. I purchased 6 balls in total; 3 blue, 1 multi brown, 2 cream. Thought this was a fantastic bargain, and as I haven't knitted in it before, will give it a go. And yes I do know that there is a difference between the new and old.

Over Committed

Well this week has been very tumultuous to say the least.

I have had to resign from the committees at school due to the fact that I can not give 100% commitment to them.

We have had to sell the Pajero, we are now the owners of a Holden Commodore.

I really do not want to go into the nitty gritty of our situation, but lets just say that due to medical and legal commitments for the next 6mths or longer, something had to give.

S has to give up sleeping during the day, on days needed. So I have given up Committees. I will still be available for Canteen on my alloted day, and will still try and get to meetings.

I realise that I have let a lot of people down, but the fact of the matter is FAMILY COMES FIRST.

This will also mean sadly that a lot of knitting may not get done. Which I also am feeling bad about, knowing that there are many needed people out there needing my garments.

S commented to me jokingly, that my knitting could come along to all the proceedings. Yes I could just see myself in small claims court, going just a minute judge I'm counting stitches. Or in waiting rooms, and getting called. Hang on doc, need to finish this row. I will be taking my knitting but whether it comes out of the bag is another story.

Onto more happier note. I would like to wish our OZZY a happy 1st birthday for today. We are not going to be nice parents on Tuesday to either Mikey or Ozzy, it's off to the vets for their yearly injections and tablets.

Too much to do so little time

Isn't that the saying by most people today.

Well since I have been in early retirement :D ; I thought I would have all the time in the world to do things. No procrastination; I am a get up and do straight away kinda gal. Well I WAS.

Lately I just don't know what is happening to myself. Is it the weather? Stress? Depression? I just can't figure it out. Maybe I am spending too much time on the computer. Yes that's it. Okay so knitting / crocheting is being done while on so said computer, also a lot of chatting.

No I'm not spending all my days on Ravelry, like before. BUT we have a lovely chat room on lingr that Fitnit started for us.

Meaning that I have been chatting to a lovely bunch of ladies who enjoy the same interests as me. S calls them my imaginary friends. Imaginary they are not. Feisty Wench & Vintage Grrl have started an Australian Random Acts Of Kindness (RAK) thread on Ravelry. And this last few days I have found some beautiful and kind hearted people all over Australia.

And yes I have been RAK'ed which surprises me. I joined so that I could RAK other knitters with something little that is special, but I also put my small wish list down. I would love to share with you my surprise packages.

From Neekie. Some beautiful Bamboo (yes Bamboo) 2.75mm dpts. Also some love Multi Coloured Reds Acrylic, which I have decided to make a beanie for a little girl.

From OzRockChic some Moda Vera Cupcake Yarn, some yummy Darrel Lea Hazelnut & Honey Chocolates (and DH & DS don't like them :) ), and a beautiful crochet Star shaped Pot Holder.

So I have felt very spoilt and undeserving of these RAK's. Yes I know that you are all sitting there thinking no don't feel that; but I'm entitled to.

My friend 2hot2knit advised us all on her blog, that Moda Vera Sock yarn was $5/100g Ball at Spotlight. Did I go get some, sadly no, as the Paj wasn't on the road.

In regards to the Pajero, we have it back. Many unnecessary $$ spent. S still feels in is not 100%, so we are in the motions of looking for a small car, just for next couple of years. Especially with the petrol prices going skywards.

Have not completed any items from the knitting pile, but have started something new.

I have been going really well with making certain goals each month. Some I have achieved, some are still to be achieved.

Finished Projects since last post.

1. Multi Coloured Patons Cardigan in 4ply. I have been commented that the yarn looks like Neapolitan Ice Cream.

I am still spending plenty of time on Ravelry and our new chat room. I am meeting so many people and making many good cyberfriends. It is so good to chat to friends with a common interest. They are on the same planet that I'm on.

I have been browsing Ravelry also for plenty of inspirational patterns. I have many queued, but realistically will never do.

I have decided to make myself some socks. Yes my 1st ever pair. My friend Woolie Wombat has sent me an easy peasy sock pattern; so here is hoping I don't mess up.

HOME / SCHOOL FRONT

Mstr 7 competed in his 1st ever school Carnival today. He surprised himself by completing the 25m freestyle. Not bad for someone who only learnt to swim 12mths ago. Must admit MUM was quite shocked he decided to have a go.

Still with no car :( Unsure when Cheeky Monkey Offroad will return from the Pajero Hospital. Hoping the end of this week.

Mikey's birthday today. Ozzy will have his next month on the 22nd. That means vet time. But we won't tell them that.

I have been elected Secretary and Purchase Officer for the school canteen. So that should keep me very busy this year.

PURCHASES

Well like most I have been a little naughty at the Spotlight Clearance Sales. I purchased some more 8ply Feathersoft (Patons Australia), and some Moda Vera Flurry (Eyelash / Feather) yarns.

The 8ply I will use for the bonnets that I do, and the Moda Vera will be combined with some normal 8ply/DK yarn for headbands for the girls.

I also have been purchasing some Patonyle off Ebay, as it is being discontinued. Such a lovely baby and sock yarn. WHY O WHY PATONS/ACS?

Yes we have been complaining a lot about this on Ravelry.

So as you can read, not much has been happening here at Rell land. Hopefully more to report next blog.

Going to be running very close to not finishing the projects for the Charities of the Month.

I have nearly the 2 beanies finished for Parramatta Mission, but the Canberra Hospital Young Mums Program are still at the back rib.

Feeling very guilty. I could use the excuses of Rav, On line chatting, school, housework, but I just don't know why.

When I am on the computer I usually have my knitting with me. There is no school canteen or P&C committments atm. Okay I have volunteered to bundle the Raffle tickets for the Easter Raffle, but that took about 3hrs.

I just haven't felt like doing anything. I have been lazing around the house, or sleeping.

I have some FO's that weren't meant to be started, so maybe that is why!

I have made these headband for a girlfriends daughter. She is D's best friend, and was so intrigued with my knitting, I promised her these. I now have to make another 2 for her older sister in different colours.

I have just the crown to do on the Moda Vera - Harmony London Beanie, which was donated to me by Sarah. I have reached a problem though. I purchased a 5mm Aero Circulara needle from Anita and forgot to get the dpts. So I am going to use 4.5mm dpts for the last 8 rows. (Remember this is just between us).

I do have photos of the other WIP's but am quite annoyed at myself that i am not publishing them. But if you check out the flicker album on the right hand side, you can see them.

It's Been Awhile

Hi All.

Still here, been very busy with the start of school. So much running around. How did I do it when working? I wasn't doing anything for the school... :)

Well I have finally learnt how to read a crochet pattern. My girlfriend & I from Knit for Charities went to a lesson run by Anita at our LYS. It was a very informative & productive day.

Knitting Front
Has much been going on? YES quite a bit. CRICKET has been frogged for the 9th time. I have decided to knit the next pattern in the book. It hasn't beaten me, just hibernating for a long while.

Sarah donated some beautiful Moda Vera Harmony and some gorgeous Hand Dyed Bendigo 4ply to my stash for charity knitting. I have never knitted with Moda Vera before, finding it lovely and soft.

Schools Back

Yes it is that time of year again, when school returns after the Xmas break. When the parents say Thank Goodness, and the teachers say oh no.

Well NOT ME! I love the holidays, I love spending the time with Mstr 7. Mind you I not sure whether he likes them though. But these holidays were so much different. Not only did we have the pool, but the trampoline. I must admit, he only played the PS2 for about 2hrs the whole hols.

I thought I might have a bit of trouble with him, this morning as he didn't get the teacher he wanted or in a class with his 2 mates, but why was i worried. It is a mum thing. He actually thought it was quite funny because his mates are with his last years teacher. (and also his Kindy). So he claims he is up on them because he has already had her twice.

So what is planned. Well canteen will not open for another few weeks until we have all the volunteers required. P&C goes back on the 11th Feb, so for the next week I am my own women, and what to do, well where to I start. Housework I here shouted from S in the background. No way, more important things to do.

Yesterday, spent on computer catching up with the household paperwork. Boring. But did speak to a girlfriend on lingr in between.

Also D started back at Tae Kwon Do. He received his Red Belt. So he is very excited. He is one of the youngest in Aust to have this belt. Unfortuneately we now have to hold him back a year, because he can't get his black until he is 10. Bummer. We took a few photos. Doesn't he look mean......and I would hate to be in front of that Kick!

How is the knitting going you ask?

Okay. I have finished 2 x Headband, and 3/4 of Damiens Beanie. But that is about it. I will slowly get back into it when I just have some time out.

Regarding Feb's to do list, I haven't even thought about it. More than likely get these WIP's to FO's then think about it. Might be a good plan.

Retail Therapy

Yeap it does help get the blues away.

Just come back from Big W with some more 100g balls of Carnival Effects.

This time in stripes, and Fair Isle, also bought Mstr 7 some Apple Green for his beanie.

This wool will all be made into beanies for the Charity of the Month on Knit for Charities. Unsure when though.

I am hooked on circular knitting now. There will be many 2 x 2 ribbed beanies leaving this house this year. (I hope, 1st 3 beanies have been claimed here. Well there is the saying Charity begins at home!)... lol

Update to the 12 knit program.

1. Pink Multi Bandanna - Finished
2. Blue Adult Camo Beanie - Finished

3. Patons 'Cricket' - Onto the sleeves, (yes doing both together)

4. Blanket Strip - Have 3 squares completed - 4 to go
5. Hubbys Gloves - Right Hand, have thumb, 1st, 2nd fingers completed. Not as hard as I 1st thought.
6. Premmie Beanie - Completed.

So we have 3 projects completed by 3rd week of January. Well done me. Photos will be posted at later date.

The other 6 projects will be thought out and started in February

. Thought I might share this project as well. It is finished. A 2x2 Ribbed Headband, from Patons Book 1218. I am going to try and sell these for the up and coming ski season. Don't know how I will go.

Ravelry.

Okay I had my whinge, and I must apologise to everyone for my blue mood.

I was feeling very overwhelmed at 2am in the morning. Not only with Ravelry but life in general.

I think everything has finally caught up with me (the move/Xmas/holidays/etc). All I feel like doing this last couple of days is sleeping. I haven't been though. (Bloody tennis)

I have spoken/chatted to many of my cyberfriends and it seems that I was being silly, I did not recognise that many ppl out in the cyber world do only knit with acrylic, ACS wool, shop at Spotties and Big W for bargains, and only knit the basics with patterns.

To clarify, I was never leaving Ravelry, I will still post, chat and download WIP's and FO's, but just will not be spending hours on it as I was. I suppose everyone finds it overwhelming to begin with. My guess is the timing was just wrong.

I did not write (type) this post for sympathy, or pity. I wrote it to vent emotional and mental feelings. Vent I have. So please if you will indulge in self preservation with me, please read on.

Don't get me wrong. I really love the concept of Ravelry http://ravelry.com/ It has been good to meet and 'chat' with fellow crafters from the internet world, who understand what you are on about. Find and receive advice. Look at the different patterns, wool (sorry yarn) etc.

BUT

It has also left me feeling very inexperienced, ignorant and embarrassed. WHY? WHEN?

Well during the posts on various forums! I have been thinking that my knitting is NOT very adventurous, and I am a rather boring, dull inexperienced knitter. I thought that I was an intermediate knitter and could do advanced techniques if I set my mind to it.

The feeling of ignorance, stems from not knowing what type of yarns, patterns, and magazines are out there. Yes I bought my 1st ever mags the other day. I bought 'Yarn' and 'Creative Knitting'. I think that I will continue to buy 'Creative Knitting'.

Embarrassment for not knowing certain computer terms, ie ROFL etc. How to do certain computer links etc.

Please don't get me wrong, ppl on Ravelry are very friendly, and HAVEN'T said anything discouraging.

So while watching the tennis yesterday the answer hit me like a FEDEX (Roger Federer) ace. I AM WHO I AM OKAY.

I knit, because I enjoy it. It is my relaxation. It is something to do while watching MY favourite TV shows. I will admit, that when Hubby or Mstr 7 are watching TV, the cross stitch comes out.

AND I have finally found purpose for my knitting. I knit for charities!

Yes I probably could make those shawls/stoles that I have found on line, BUT I can not justify, the time and money that would be spent making it, to sit up in the wardrobe. I don't go anywhere to wear it, so why make it. In regards to socks, well eventually I might make a pair. But who is going to see them. As I am a cuddly size, I wear long pants. So hence no body will see the socks.

So I may not be able to make my own patterns, buy the most expensive wool, do the more complicated stitches. I don't need to.

My satifaction comes from knowing that some needed person out there will receive my knitted item, WON'T look for mistakes, worry about the size, colour, or whether I have designed it myself.

So from now on I am going to lurk on Ravelry. Spend less time on the computer, except to blog, and more time knitting, pruning the stash and looking after my family and NOT WORRYING ABOUT STUPID THINGS.

But I do find it good for chats, looking at others projects, and meeting fellow knitters and being able to talk (well sort of), but NOTHING is better than to sit, knit and chat over a cuppa , ice cream or cake.

So the cheers to the start of my 12 knit program.

1. Pink Multi Chemo Bandanna

Knitted in 4ply Cotton - Yatzal Brand. 50 grams. $2 / ball at the local Penrith Markets. Couldn't resist the colours. Hot Pink, Fuschia and Rose Pink. 4mm (Size 8) needles used.

2. The Blue Camo 2x2 Ribbed Beanie

Another K4C linked pattern.

Materials - 4mm (No 8) Circulars. Carnival Effects Camouflage Blue. (Big W) acrylic. Hubby has asked for this to be made an extra 10cms longer than the Army Green. So I suppose he is getting this one. Master 7 will want a matching one. So I may just have enough wool for both. Here's hoping.

3. Patons Book R34. Design No 4. 'Cricket'

NO you are not seeing double, and yes I have begun knitting this pattern again.

Materials - 4ply Shepherd 100% Pure Wool (using stash yarn). Needles 12 & 10's (2.75mm & 3.25mm). Pattern is designed for 3ply Feathersoft, but I am going to give 4ply a go. And yes I have about 4 balls @ 25 Grams, so I have enough wool. Might even have enough over to make a bonnet or boottees, so lets just see.

4. Blanket Strips for the Charity Group http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/knittingforbrisbanesneedy/

As per previous posts many moons ago, I have started again making strips that will end up being sewn into blankets.

Measurement that I use are 5mm needles, 8ply stash, 38sts, 80 rows / square. 7 squares = 1 strip.

So no need to take a boring photo of the cast on stitches and 2 rows garter stitch knitted. So that my fellow readers can make sure I am on track, I will post a photo after every square finished.

5. Gloves for Hubby.

My 1st ever set of gloves that I am making. Hubby has asked if I could ingeniously make the 1st finger 1/3 fingerless, so that he can work the computer properly. So not one to succumb to a challenge I am giving it a go.

And this is the 1st of my finished projects in the 12 knit project program.

The other 6 projects have yet to be decided. So I will keep that until next blog. More than likely in a few weeks. End of the school holidays.

I would just like to let my readers know that sometimes I may not blog for a few weeks, don't panic please. I am still around, just this year I am committing more time to the school canteen, alas to keep my brain athinking.

As I have noticed that since early forced retirement at 38, my brain is dwindling. Not enough stimulation. Okay yes I do knit, but my brain needs more.

So lets just see how the year pans out. But at the moment life is terrific.

Like Father and Son

I have acheived this week, not 1 but 2 beanies knitted on circular needles.

Yes it is just the basic 2 x 2 rib but hey.....

One for the dad and one for son.

I will try and get a picture of them together, but Hubby doesn't trust me that I will cut out his face.

Now onto trying to convert 2 needle beanie and bonnets to circulars. Should be fun.

The Coathanger covers are coming along nicely as well. D and I finished 15 yesterday.

Above are the Childrens hangers, knitted in yarn and lace. Below are Adults. I particular like the lace edging on the Multi Purple one.

Okay my 1st goal achieved.

I am knitting on circular needles, and have not put it down since Wednesday, hence it is nearly finished. I also have used approx 80 grams of my 30 Kilo stash.

Ribbed Stocking Cap, website download (I think Head Huggers?). Yarn using is Panda, Carnival Effects Camouflage, in Army green.

Going to a charity, if I can get it out of the house. Hubby and Mstr 7 placing bids now for it.

I am know hooked on circulars and am looking for patterns.

I also received a late Xmas pressie from hubby. I mentioned that I would like to go to Spotties and 'The Wool Inn' at Penrith, for a look only.

And he gave me some spending money. Don't get me wrong he is not tight like that, but surprised me with it in a card and all. Was just waiting for the right time to give it too me, so I wouldn't spend it on anyone else.

So bought Patons 'Big Book of Small Projects 2' and Patons Book 1218 'Beanies, Scarves & Accessories' for men & boys.

Also in the shopping bag went some larger circulars and dpns for US patterns. So I did enjoy myself.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

Well I have been very busy since I have last written in my blog. Unpacking etc. The move went extremely well. We have been in the pool nearly everyday. Mstr 7 loves it.

On to the knitting projects.

This beautiful nearly finished cardigan has been frogged. Yes I once again ran out of yarn. My own fault. I thought that by doing it in needles 2 sizes smaller than recommended I may have had enough, not quite. I had just about 1/3rd of the sleeve to go. I had always intended on doing the front bands and collar in white, using pretty girlie pink buttons to contrast, but oh well... looks like the magic stripe jumper is getting knitted again!

My 1st ever dog coat is finished. I made this by using 2 strands of the 'Have You Any Wool'. It actually knitted up better than I expected. AND NO I didn't run out of the blue wool... I thought I would experiment, and do a nice collar. Cute isn't it. My model is Bart. He was a bit temperamental, was a bit camera shy. But we got there eventually.

I have been slowly unpacking the stash. I have just finished the 4ply stash and I was so clever that I have did a spreadsheet of the what is there. Why didn't I think of this prior, makes it so much easier going to the draw and just checking a bit of paper or 2.

Today I will be doing the 3ply and hopefully the 5ply stash. I also have been asked nicely, with a cheeky grin, if I could unpack 'MY' videos and DVD's. (Mstr 7). Well it does keep him out of my hair while I am on the computer. It is the deal we have. He sits and watches a movie and I get on the computer, and when the movie is finished, it is us time. Fair enough.

I only have a couple of projects on the needles at the moment as I am trying and WILL get the coat hangers finished for this years Mothers Day stall at the school. I have approx 20 ready to go on the hanger (IE sewn), 30 to be sewn and completed, and about 10 completed. I have been using many patterns, from various sources. I have been doing plain wool ( I say wool, but it is acrylic), nylon and lace.

Another of my missions today is to sew up the 30, then Mstr 7 and I will get them completed in a few days. Yes he loves helping me complete them. Because he gets to very carefully use the glue gun.

Yes that is correct, we have been accepted for the house that has a gigantic shed and a swimming pool. Guess where we will be living on the weekends?

So apart from packing I have been able to knit in the evenings. I have promised Hubby that I will try and get my latest projects finished and posted before the move, and NOT start anything else. mmmmm maybe........ just one thing.

This week I have completed 7 items.

Another Chemo Bandanna in a lovely multi coloured Semco 4ply Cotton.

And also 2 x 8ply bonnets from Sark Designs. The lighter of the blue is not well pictured but is a lovely lacy eyelet pattern. The darker blue is basketweave. I know that the darker is Berber pure wool from Target. The lighter is pure wool but unknown brand.

Also finished but haven't covered coathangers yet are 4 x 8ply coathanger covers. That will be done after the move.

At present I have on the needles:-

A Small Dogs Coat. 1st attempt of this type of knitting. Using double yarn of the Have u any Wool. Is knitting up really well.

Coathanger Cover in moss stitch, 8ply arcrylic.

Pink Baby Cardigan, yarn is 3ply Needleworks, Pattern Patons.

Brown Multi Coloured Chemo Bandanna, Panda 4ply Cotton.

Baby Bonnet in 8ply Arcrylic, Pattern Sark Designs.

Not on needles but in the hoop: Khyra's Cross stitch.

I will be having a sale on Ebay to get rid of a lot of my cross stitch kits. I have a growing stash that out does my wool stash, and I really will never get them started.

As promised here are some photos of my finished projects. I have found out that the 'Have you any wool' is 100% acrylic so unsure whether would be a good idea for animal rugs.

The above photos are of the bonnets that I have knitted in 4ply & 8ply wool and acrylic. These designs are from Sandra Rose of Sark Designs. You will find her pattern books available on ebay.

The Bootees are in 3 & 4ply, mainly Cleckheaton Bambino, Patons Feathersoft. Patterns from various sourced books. These will be going to Knit 4 Charities, Charity of the Month, PIPA in Brisbane.

My no think knitting, 4ply chemo bandannas designed by Judith at Knit 4 Charities. I will donate these to Nepean Cancer Care Unit, Nepean Public Hospital. Have another on the needles.

The blue premmie cardigan that was meant to be! I have finished it and it has become a dolls cardigan. Which will be going to the Anglicare Christmas Guild. Wool was "Have U Any Wool". Design 'Christopher' by Denny Kelly.

And the last picture is of the Canary yellow cardigan, which was made from acrylic, ply unknown. This wool had been undone so many times, that I am very angry at myself for not washing it before knitting with it again. I was just really getting sick of looking at the wool. I think it may have been Carnival Wool or similar. Pattern by Patons. I suppose some little girl will love it though. Should fit about 1 - 2yrs.

Well let me see.......ummm....where to start....okay!

With Kindy orientation week at school!

Yes it is that time of year again, and I was asked if I could speak about the canteen and clothing pool to the new parents/carers of Kindy 2008. Not only was I doing canteen Tuesday & Thursday, I helped get the clothing pool in some type of order Wednesday & Thursday Morning. The presentation was Friday morning, and then I stayed to help in the Canteen on Friday. You see we have a competition on at the moment run by the Slush Puppie Co. The children have a chance to win a scooter, so the canteen has been really busy. I felt like a teacher/student this week!

"Lorelle, Did you get time to knit?" I hear you ask.

Yes I did! On the bus to and from school. Our Pajero was in hospital this week, so I had an 1/2 hr bus trip both ways. (It only takes 10mins to drive!) I could have driven 'Evil Homer' (that is our 1973 VW bug), BUT I don't know how to drive a manual.

Works Completed - Dolls Cardigan, it has been sewn up, buttons added, ready to go, somewhere!

Works on sticks - 3rd Chemo Bandanna, I really love doing these. No think knitting!
- Boys doll outfit, to finish off the yuck wool. Still have 7.5 balls to go. 1.5 blue, 3 pink & 3 cream.
- Pink preemie cardigan, Patons pattern, needleworks 3ply wool. Using 14 & 12 needles to reduce the size, quite pretty.
- 4 x various coat hanger covers using up supply of 8ply stash. I think I am getting clever, I have 4 different patterns going on 1 set of 9 needles..... :)

Home Front - We are heading off on Monday to inspect a property 10 mins the other side of Windsor called Freemans Reach. This property has a big shed out the back, and heaven A POOL! Hubby has asked me to get the Tenancy Applications ready with all the paperwork needed, because he maintains, that if the inside is as good as the outside, we are there......

I can just see Master 7, Ozzy (our 7mth old red cattle x rotti) and Hubby in the pool. Wonder if Mikey would get in, he likes jumping in the bath or shower when your having one. That's the Cornish Rex in him......

Well I must depart, I will add pictures of all the projects tomorrow, I have ironing/folding and Knitting to do. I really should start packing the 3rd room! Just all the videos, trophies, ornaments etc. But I DO NOT want to open the cupboard, that is where my stash etc is. V8's are on this weekend in Tassie, so might not get any packing done.

Well it is like this, I am a little worried that nobody is reading it, or leaving comments. A few people have on my 1st couple of post, but from then on..... well......so I see it this way......YES I WILL KEEP BLOGGING

It is a way of recording my attempts, achievements, comments, etc in my life. Better than writing a diary!

Hubby and I have been looking for new rental properties. We are getting tired of waiting to see if an investor will buy. We have put a few proposals forward to the owner, whether the agent passes them on, who knows.

Master 7 has achieved is Gold Merit Good Behaviour Certificate for this year. WELL DONE!

What has been going in the way of Knitting. Yes I have a few things OFF the needles. I have since the last blog finished 2 x Chemo Scarves in 4ply Cotton, 2 x Preemie 8ply bonnet.

I am nearly finished the dolls cardigan in that horrible wool. Can't Wait to get it off the needles, but have another 9 balls to go......May leave that in the car as emergency knitting.

Still on the needles: Dolls cardigan (yuk)! Another cotton chemo bandanna/scarf, and a two toned baby bonnet.

I have just finished buying some more SARK DESIGN books, by Sandra Rose off EBay, so anxiously awaiting to get my teeth stuck into those.

Reading: I have finished 2 books since last post. Now onto Karen Robards.

Well I haven't been doing much this week, except washing curtains, windows, winter blankets etc.

I have finished the 3ply yellow cardigan. I am very disappointed with it. I should know better than to use wool 3 or 4 times, without washing, and it was arcylic. Hence there will be no photo.

I have started on a premmie outfit in Acrylic, with Have U any Wool, but have found it horrible. I will admit, yes, I bought it cheap at Go Lo, thought that it might be okay. So I haven't frogged it but thought it might be good for a dolls outfit, to go in a Christmas box for a little girl. But I have about 9 balls of this in different colours so will have to be making dolls clothes for awhile.

I have decided to send the 2 crochet blankets to Blue Mountains Knitters Guild, where there is a lovely lady who can use them.

So at present I only have on the needles, a dolls outfit, and a cotton Chemo Bandanna.

I popped into Spotlight on Sunday, with Hubby and Master 7 in tow. So the Vest is finished and posted. I also bought more (yes with hubby present :) ) more cotton and also all my needles and hooks that I needed.

For someone who has knitted for many years, I think about 20, I finally do not have to buy anymore necessities. This is because I am now going to give dpns and circular knitting a go. YES I am going to be adventurous. I hope nobody hears me screaming!

At present, an investor has come back and looked at the house, for the 3rd time. He also is willing to let us have a long lease (5yrs) which is good for us, because then we will be in the position to move to Qld. NOT THE COAST! And Master 7 will be able to start high school then.

Well I should disappear off to do the ironing, but it is getting quite muggy here in the Hawkesbury district, so I may just iron Master 7's uniforms!

Yes he loved sleeping on my knitting bag until he was 5 months old, now he sleeps in the knitting box........
